With Samuelsson scoring his 2 goals and Hasek playing great Hockey, the Wings have moved onto the Western Conf Finals against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
From ESPN.com:
"Mikael Samuelsson scored two first-period goals, Dominik Hasek posted his 13th career playoff shutout and the Red Wings rolled into the conference finals with three straight victories in their second-round series, beating the deflated San Jose Sharks 2-0 Monday night.
Pavel made a great score from a rebound to make the series 1-1, instead of allowing the Sharks to take a 2-0 lead going home to "the tank".
All they need is a split in San Jose now...
We will see.
CALGARY, Alberta -- Johan Franzen took a long shot and the Saddledome crowd fell eerily silent. The Detroit Red Wings knew they had just won their first-round playoff series.
Franzen scored early in the second overtime period, leading the Red Wings to a series-clinching 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Sunday night.
Detroit outshot Calgary during the six-game series, 255-129. The difference of 126 shots on goal was the largest by opposing teams in any NHL playoff series during the expansion era.
DETROIT -- The Calgary Flames aren't going down without a fight.
Daniel Cleary converted the first successful penalty shot ever in Detroit during the playoffs and Henrik Zetterberg had two goals and an assist in the Red Wings' 5-1 victory over Calgary on Saturday.
When the Flames knew they'd fall behind 3-2 in the first-round series, they weren't satisfied with just some scrums and trash talk.
The lopsided game took an ugly turn with a few minutes left when Calgary backup goalie Jamie McLennan slashed Johan Franzen in the midsection.
Brings the Wings up to a 2-0 series lead.
Pavel seems to have awaken from his playoff funk from the past few years, with another goal today.
The Dominator shutting down the Flames, and the "captain" coming thru with a goal for himself.
Now onto Calgary for some late night games :(
In the best of 7 Series.
Hasek had an awesome showing, and Pavel comes thru finally :)
Love that fight at the end too, may make this series an interesting one now.
With a 7-2 Victory over Chicago, the Red Wings have won the Western Conference as the top seed with 113 points and 50 Wins. Yippee, lets see if that translates into another first round ousting.
DETROIT -- The Dallas Stars were outplayed for most of their game against the Detroit Red Wings. They made up for it in the last six minutes of regulation.
Sergei Zubov scored the only goal of the shootout to lift Dallas to a 4-3 comeback victory Friday night and improve its points streak to six straight games.
The Stars scored three goals in 6:17 to tie the game at 3 in the third period and send it into overtime. Dallas had been 2-8-5 in its previous 15 games against Dallas.
And they have tied it up again, to be #1 in the Western Conf.
These guys can't seem to win in OT/Shoot Outs.
I guess it's 4th place in the playoffs for them. Maybe that's a good thing.
